Circus Theatricks

Description:
Ages 6-15 • Cost: $215 • July 13 - July 17, 2009 • Monday-Friday • 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. • Maureen Stapleton Theater

Program Information:
We are pleased to have Sean (Seano) Fagan back at Hudson Valley Community College this summer for a special week of circus theatricks.Whether you’ve experienced fun with Seano in the past or you’re new to the circus world, this class is for you. Beginning students will be introduced to the art of juggling, tumbling, partner acrobatics, magic and the secrets and skills of circus clowns. Returning students, get ready to be challenged and further your skills in the circus arts.
The instructional component of these programs will run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. with a half hour for lunch each day. *Students should bring their own lunch and snack each day. Refrigeration is not available.
Our counseling staff will provide supervision of participants from 8 - 9 a.m. and 3 - 4 p.m. each day for those students who arrive early and stay late.

Kids On Campus - Sports Camps (full & half day)

Program Information:
Basketball Camp
ages 7-16, 9am-3pm • 2009 dates: July 6-10 (boys) and August 3-7 (girls) • cost: $155
This camp includes instruction in fundamental skills and basic rules; daily drills to improve agility, coordination and ball handling; instructional and game films. Equipment: workout gear, sneakers.
Andre Cook Advanced Basketball Camp
Ages: 9-15 • July 20-24, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. cost: $175
for the serious basketball player that has been to basketball camps in the past or has played on a team.

Golf Camp
ages 10-16, half-day morning program • 2009 dates: July 6-10, 9 a.m. - noon • cost: $110 (includes visit to local golf range)
includes instruction in the fundamentals of the game, including grip, stance, swing, rules, terminology and etiquette of play. Equipment: bag and clubs (driver, 3, 5, 7 & 9 irons, putter).

Soccer Camp
ages: 6-16 • 2009 dates: July 13-17, July 27-31, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. • cost: $155
This camp includes instruction in the technique and tactics of soccer. Younger groups will focus on technical skill development, while older groups will concentrate on decision-making under pressure and tactical awareness. Equipment: workout gear, cleats, sneakers, shin guards and soccer ball.

Softball Camp
ages: 6-16 • 2009 dates: July 20-24, 9 a.m.- noon cost: $79
Instruction in this camp will emphasize batting, base-running, throwing, fielding, pitching and catching. Equipment: glove, sneakers, cleats (optional) and bat (optional).

Tennis Camp
ages: 8-15 • 2009 dates: June 29 - July 2, 9 a.m. - 1pm, July 6 - 10, 9 a.m. - noon., July 6-9 from 5 - 8 p.m • cost: $79
Instruction in this camp will emphasize the development of ground strokes, net play and serve. Individualized instruction is provided for all levels of play, from beginner to advanced. Equipment: racquet, workout gear and tennis shoes.

Adventure Camp
ages 9-16 • 2009 dates: June 29 - July 2, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. cost: $80
A series of activities designed to challenge participants on both an individual and group basis. Presented by trained instructors the program encourages teamwork, cooperation, focus and responsibility. Participants work together to successfully maneuver each obstacle and creatively solve challenges. Equipment: workout gear and sneakers.

Advanced Adventure
ages 9-16 • July 6-9, 5 - 8 p.m • cost: $155
Campers will learn and participate in belay techniques, knot tying and the necessary skills to facilitate an adventure course. Prerequisite: Campers must have participated in at least 2 previous adventure camps. Equipment: workout gear and sneakers.

Lacrosse Camp
ages 8-16 • 2009 dates: Girls Camp-July 6-9, 5-8 p.m • Boys Camp- July 27 - July 31, 9 a.m.-noon. cost: $79
Instruction in lacrosse fundamentals including strategies for playing offensive and defensive aspects of the game will be covered in this non-contact camp. Students will participate in activities to improve agility and coordination while learning good sportsmanship. Equipment: lacrosse stick, workout gear, sneakers, helmet (if students have their own).

Football Camp
ages 7-14 • 2009 dates: July 20-24, 9 a.m. - Noon • cost: $79
Instruction in the fundamental skills needed to play the game of football will be covered. This is a non-contact camp that also will serve to enhance the knowledge of the basic rules of the game. All in attendance will learn to pass, kick, snap, catch, block and tackle. Equipment: workout gear, cleats and/or sneakers.

Softball Camp
ages 8-15 • 2009 dates: July 20-24, 9 a.m. - Noon. • cost: $79
Instruction in this camp will emphasize batting, base-running, throwing, fielding, pitching and catching. Equipment: glove, sneakers, cleats (optional) and bat (optional).

T-Ball
ages 4-6 • 2009 dates: August 3-7, 9 a.m. - Noon • cost: $79
This camp centered around the game of T-ball will be a fun way of learning skills for hitting, catching, throwing and running bases. Daily activities also will include games, crafts and water activities. (balloons and slip 'n slides)

Volleyball
ages 9-15 • 2009: July 13-17, 9 a.m. - 12 noon • cost: $79
For the beginning player: learn to pass, set, dig, block, spike and serve. Focus will be on basic skill improvement and fun activities centered around the game of volleyball. Equipment needed: sneakers, workout gear. Suggested: knee pads.

All Sports
ages 7-14 • 2009: July 27-31, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. cost: $155
Throughout the week, various sports will be featured including: soccer, basketball, handball, wiffleball, track & field events such as relay races, long jump, high jump & triple jump. Part of each day will include brain games.

Summer Academy
Language, History, Science, Math, Technology, Fitness

Description:
The Summer Academy is Hudson Valley’s latest Kids on Campus offering. On these pages you will find a variety of classes that will interest and engage your child. Programs are offered for elementary, middle and high school students and are scheduled so your child can attend in the morning, afternoon or both.

Kids may choose from a series of half-day programs on a wide variety of subjects. Academy courses cover: language, history, science, mathematics, technology and fitness.

These themed workshops will by taught by current and former teachers and other professionals who have skills or experience in the content area. Additional counselor staff may assist with supervision. The academic courses in Reading, Math, and Writing are offered in cooperation with The Educational Improvement Depot.

Program Information:
Weekly sessions available, a.m. & p.m., August 3 - August 28, 2009 (Check class schedules by clicking on website link below) • Registration begins Tuesday, March 18, 2009
Programs for students entering grades 1-2, grades 3-5, grades 6-8 and high school students
Lunch: All students staying on campus for both the morning and afternoon sessions must register for the supervised lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m. Students must register for the appropriate date section. Lunch is not provided. $10/week
Extended Care: is available from 7:30-9 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. for an additional charge. $25/week

Additional Information:
S.A.T. Preparation Course for High School Students
This course is designed to prepare students for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (math, verbal and writing sections). The schedule of topics will be determined the first session. The course will teach strategies for problem solving, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, sentence completion, grammar and essay writing skills. The classes will use actual SAT questions for practice to familiarize students with the test format and style.

Summer Educational Enrichment Program
Social Studies/Language Arts, Physical Education, Character Education, Math/Science, Computers

Description:
Children entering grades 1-7 are grouped by age and grade completed. Each group will have between 15 and 20 students and has a counselor assigned to them throughout the day. The children and their counselor move to each of the following content areas, which are led by teachers.
The Content Components: We are pleased to announce themed sessions for the Summer Educational Enrichment Program. Each week will have a unique theme that will carry across the following content areas.
Social Studies/Language Arts
Physical Education/Character Education
Math/Science
Computers

Each class will be developed to include the weekly theme. Special art projects, games, and a guest speaker will be featured each week. A mini variety show and movie feature will take place on Friday afternoon to complete each special week.

Students entering grade 1 - 7 • Weekly sessions available June 29 - August 14, 2009
Registration begins Tuesday, March 18, 2009 • Cost: $155 per week

Summer Youth Theater Workshop

Description:
Do you love to act, sing, dance or tell jokes? Do you see yourself behind the scenes, as a director or stage manager, set or props designer? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, the Summer Youth Theater Workshop is for you! The workshop will take you through the entire process of producing a musical theater piece, from creating the characters, writing the script and developing songs, to rehearsing and performing in the final production, which will take place on the last day of the workshop. No experience is required, just a desire to jump in and put on a show!

Session 1: Ages 7-11, June 29-July 10, 2009 no class 7/3, 8 am - 4pm
Session 2: Ages 10-16, July 20-July 31, 2009, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m
Registration begins Tuesday, March 18, 2009 • Cost: $310 per two week session

Program instructors: Liv Cummins and Sandy McKnight
Liv is a performer, writer and educator who works with young people of many ages in venues such as TADA!, the Broadway Theater Institute, Lucy Moses School, and the Elaine Kaufman Center for the Arts at Lincoln Center.
Sandy is a producer, writer, musician and teacher who has written more than 500 songs and produced more than 100 recordings. He has written several scripts for VH1’s “Top Ten Countdown” as well as pilots for a new TV series.
Additional counselor staff may assist with supervision.

Technology Enrichment Day Program

Description:
The Technology Enrichment Program will be held on the Hudson Valley Community College campus again this year. This program will give students a chance to discover their interests and talents through hands-on, activity packed learning sessions. Students will be given the opportunity to explore several dynamic areas.
The program will meet Monday through Friday for one week. Students will have one half-hour for lunch and are expected to bring their own lunch and beverage.

The program is comprised of five modules:

Module 2 - Alternative Energy Systems
Module 3 - Keeping Your Balance!
Module 4 - Introduction to Web Page Design

Teen Song Writing Workshop

Description:

Program Information:
Bring your love of music, your knack with poetry or lyrics and your desire to express yourself, to the Teen SongwritingWorkshop. You'll learn how to come up with song ideas, melodies and stories. Whether or not you can play an instrument, you can write songs. Soon, you'll be able to write for your friends' bands, or perhaps go out and perform them yourself! In fact, anyone in theWorkshop (who wants to) can perform their song in a special showcase on the final day (July 10).
