Bioscience Camps for Middle and High School Students

Description:

Bioscience Exploration for Middle School Students
Middle school students entering grades 6 – 8 will use RIT’s expansive natural environment and high-tech laboratory to explore the natural world through field trips, lab experiments and computer simulations. These day camps are also a great opportunity for homeschoolers to get hands-on lab experience through enquiry driven experiments. Five sessions are offered this year.
2010 dates:
Week 1: July 12 - 16: Living Things: from Macroscopic to Microscopic
Week 2: July 19 - 23: Where do they get their Energy?
Week 3: July 26 - 30: What do Cells have to do with Gels?
Week 4: August 2 - 6: Is there a chimpanzee in the family tree?
Week 5: August 9 - 13: What can we do with DNA?

Medical Science for High School Students
High school students entering grades 9 -11 who think they might be interested in a clinical or research career in medicine will enjoy this comprehensive exploration of human health and disease. The camps will provide opportunities to meet clinicians and scientists, and discuss careers in the medical and allied health professions.
Offered July 12-16, and July 26-30, 2010: Each week will cover different topics, so students can choose to attend one or both weeks.

Cost: $300 per week
Time: Monday – Friday, 9 – 4 pm. Extended day option available

Experience life as a college student!
Our 20th annual College & Careers program allows rising high school seniors to explore career options, with over 60 academic sessions to choose from. These interactive sessions include demonstrations and discussions about course work and career options related to the majors you are interested in. Working with our students and faculty, you will use our state-of-the-art facilities and technology to help you get started in making choices for your future.
In addition, you will experience life as a college student! Sleeping in the residence halls, eating in the student cafeteria (the food is good!), and Friday night social activities are just some of the experiences you will share with over 600 other college-bound seniors. RIT English Language Center: English as a Second Language (ESL)

Description:
Rochester Institute of Technology's English Language Center is designed for students who plan to attend a university in the United States, have a high school diploma, are at least 17 years old, and have previously studied English. The English Language Center conducts 11-week programs every fall, winter, spring and summer.

During the first few days, students participate in orientation activities to become familiar with the English Language Center and the city of Rochester. They also take English language proficiency tests and are placed at the level which best serves their needs. Classes are offered at three skill levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Language lab is offered 10 hours per week for students to practice English, use computers, and get assistance from an instructor. Full-time students in the intensive English program have at least 20 class-hours weekly in grammar, reading, writing, conversation and vocabulary.

In addition to studying, students have a lot of fun. They swim, play tennis, soccer, basketball, ice skate, and go bowling. They visit Niagara Falls, local museums, festivals, concerts, parks, and lakes in beautiful Upstate New York.

11-week summer session: Classes run from June 8- August 19, 2010.
Students move in 2 days before classes start.

Explore Your Future (EYF) is a six-day career exploration program at Rochester Institute of Technology for college-bound high school students with hearing loss who will begin their junior or senior year in fall 2010. This program, offered by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), focuses on personal growth and career awareness for students as they begin to think about college.
