French Language Camp

Description:
Directors: Celine Philibert and Mylene Catel
This 14th annual Camp d'immersion en francais provides an opportunity for students age 9-17 to learn and practice language skills using immersion techniques under the direction of two native French-speaking instructors and several francophone college students.
Campers with any level of ability and experience ranging from beginner to advanced are welcome to attend as resident or commuter campers. With a focus on “L’architecture,” -camper activities, classroom sessions and an overnight trip to Montreal, Canada, create a rich French immersion curriculum. Campers are divided into three groups, beginner, intermediate, and advanced on a basis of a brief interview on the first day of camp. Morning activities consist of classroom sessions where students learn, practice and perfect their language skills and afternoon activities are conducted outdoors. Beginners concentrate on their self-expression in French. Intermediate and advanced campers join for several inside and outside activities. The use of French is encouraged at meal times and during evening activities organized by camp staff. Evening activities include a night at the movies, board games in French, journal writing and arts and crafts.
Campers travel to Montréal on July 30 and 31 by chartered bus for an overnight trip filled with excitement and discoveries. Campers will visit the Old Montréal, St. Helen, and Notre Dame islands. They will stroll in the lovely Westmount neighborhood and along the Sherbrooke street, and enjoy a guided visit of the Pointe-a`-Callière Museum, the Montréal Historical Center, and the Canadian Center for Architecture.

Potsdam “Bears” International Summer Basketball Camp

Description:
For the past 38 years, the Potsdam Bears International Summer Basketball Camp has attracted over 11,500 campers from the small towns of northern New York, 20 different states, the provinces of Ontario and Québec, and around the world. As one of the most highly rated camps in the country, players will learn the fundamentals of basketball for the 39th consecutive year. Last summer 510 players learned skills through individual and group instruction from a staff of over 65 top-notch college and high school coaches.

Since many of the campers are from Canada, this co-ed camp is truly international in flavor. Although both boys and girls attend camp in the same session, the skill groups and teams are not co-ed.
